Join me in my little studio here in Brisbane, for a day of one-on- one mentorship & creative expansion. Think of it as a painting workshop but instead of learning how to paint like me, you lean into YOUR authentic style & approach.
A 6 hour workshop designed to guide you to explore and grow your existing art practice , allowing what's already there to work alongside fresh approaches.
I am a passionate Art Educator, with a degree in fine art & eduction. I've taught high school visual arts, worked with an NGO teaching arts therapy to refugees, have facilitated scores of workshops, and have over a decade industry experience as a full time artist. Why tell you all that!? Well, I think transparency is so important & I want you to feel reassured that I'm really qualified & know not onky how to paint, but how to teach too.
Who is this workshop suited to?
Anyone who already has some painting / drawing / mixed media experience. That's broad, so I'll break it down!
This may be that you have been developing a practice for years, already selling with a gallery or on your own & just feel stuck. Or, you might be only a year or so in, and are ready to take the next step & level up your approach.
You might be tired of the same old marks, finding that you want to push your palette further, experience plein air painting, dabble in some new materials but just not know how. Perhaps you want to get my insights on starting to sell, or sell more! My insights on galleries & art fairs, art collectives , further education, or even how to build a loyal collector base with the help of social media.
After you book, I send you a few questions to tailor the session to your needs & hopes.
The extras!
- 1 Follow up 45 minute session - included in price
1 follow up 45 min zoom / phone call to ask any questions that have arisen or seek further guidance . Usually 4-6 weeks after the session.
-I will always be available for any additional sessions via phone etc. Each additional session will be $120 for 45 minutes.
-Opportunity to exhibit
I think one of the most exciting aspects is, there is opportunity to participate in a group exhibition here in early 2027. Interstate clients very welcome to attend in person however just sending your work up will be ample.
This will be an exciting and diverse display of original art by all my workshop attendees and I cannot wait to show off your talents! I believe exhibition plays a crucial role in pushing our art practice further & i encourage you to take up the invitation.
From around October, I will be helping you get a painting or two together. We will hold space for an online forum so all artists participating can meet virtually, share any ideas/ progress & even meet up in person closer to the exhibition, if you are able.
There will be a small admin fee included and I will only take a 25% commission on any sales. Galleries average 40-50%. All publicity and organisation handled by me!
More on that to come!
What to expect on the day of the workshop.
I'm flexible with times, but generally I find 6 hours is good. So we usually run 10am - 4pm or 9am - 3pm.
***All materials and lunch supplied
First, we spend a little time chatting about your practice and what problems you are wrestling with. Another client called this an alignment conversation. I like this description!
Then, we work on a large unstretched canvas ( about 130cm high x 100cm wide) throughout the day, using a variety of different techniques and materials. Resolving it throughout the day, with plenty of constructive feedback , guidance and challenging you to expand your approach. You can choose your subject matter, or I can guide you. The focus will be developing a comprehensive palette, challenging yourself with different hues. Studies & notes taken along to way to take back to your own studio.
Marks, gestures & line another key aspect .
This is where picking up a different material like oil stick, ink, charcoal, or even collage can be a game changer!
You will leave with your large unstretched canvas, multiple studies & notes. Most importantly, you will leave with a new found direction & elevated passion to keep working on a truly authentic practice.
I'm located in the leafy Western suburbs of Brisbane, about 20km from the CBD. A bus stops from the city directly to my door.
From one of my recent clients @kate_elizabeth_art
"The mentoring session allowed me to bring Kate a problem I was wrestling with. We had great exploratory and alignment conversations before picking up a paintbrush. Kate used these conversations to help unpack my inspiration, approach, understanding of colour, and stylistic preferences.
During the painting session, Kate encouraged me to push my thinking and more importantly my doing - to make different strokes, to use space in a different way than I had been using it and to use colours that I hadn’t used before. She encouraged me to resolve the art in new ways.
I left the session feeling alive and inspired, with an approach to painting that was still me. I wasn’t there to learn how to be Kate Pittas. I already had an existing practice and voice. I wanted to expand more and be more comfortable making bolder and different choices. I was there to unlock more of my way of communicating visually. I left with all that, and more.
If you are an artist and want to extend your practice in some way, a mentoring session with Kate is a little bit of magic. A catalyst to more. "
